How to Apply for Jobs in the USA
Applying for jobs in the USA takes more than clicking “Apply”. This guide covers the key steps: getting your resume ready, choosing between Easy Apply and company websites, and applying at the right time.
Step 1 — Fix your resume first. US employers expect a clean, simple resume: one page for most people, no photo, no date of birth, and your city and state at the top. Use clear headings like Summary, Skills and Experience, and match the words in your resume to the words in the job posting.
Step 2 — Know where to apply. Most US jobs are posted on LinkedIn, Indeed, Dice and ZipRecruiter. But many good roles are only on the company's own career page, so check both. Applying only on job boards means you miss a large part of the market.
Step 3 — Easy Apply vs company websites. Easy Apply on LinkedIn or Indeed is fast — you can send many applications in one day. Because it is easy, hundreds of people apply for the same job. Company website applications take longer (you create an account and fill a full form), but fewer people finish them, so your application gets more attention. The best plan is a mix of both.
Step 4 — Timing matters. Apply early. Jobs posted in the last 24–48 hours get the most attention from recruiters, and applications sent during US working hours (Monday to Friday) are more likely to be seen quickly. Do not wait a week — by then the shortlist may already be full.
Step 5 — Track everything. Keep a simple spreadsheet with the company, job title, date applied and status. This stops you applying twice for the same job and helps you follow up. This is exactly the system we use for our clients — every application goes into one Excel tracker.

Resume Tips That Get You Interviews
Most resumes are rejected by software before a person ever sees them. These simple ATS-friendly tips will help your resume pass the screening and get read by a real recruiter.
Many companies use an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) — software that scans your resume before a human looks at it. If the software cannot read your resume, or cannot find the right keywords, your application stops there. These tips fix that:
- Use clear, standard headings. Write “Summary”, “Skills”, “Experience” and “Education”. Avoid creative headings like “My Journey” — the software may not understand them.
- Copy keywords from the job posting. If the job asks for “customer service” and “data entry”, use those exact words in your resume — where they are true for you. The ATS searches for these words first.
- Show measurable results. Numbers get attention. Instead of “helped customers”, write “helped 40+ customers per day” or “increased sales by 15%”. Real numbers make your work easy to believe.
- Keep it to one page. For most jobs, one strong page is better than three weak pages. If you have 10+ years of experience, two pages is acceptable — never more.
- No tables, no graphics. Remove tables, text boxes, icons, charts and photos. ATS software often cannot read them, and your information can come out scrambled or missing. Use simple text, one column, and a normal font.
- Save as PDF (unless the job posting asks for Word), and name the file clearly, like “YourName-Resume.pdf”.

Remote Jobs in 2026 — How to Find Them
Remote work is now a normal part of the job market, and “Worldwide Remote” roles let you work for companies in other countries. Here is where to find them, what employers look for, and how to apply the right way.
Where to find remote jobs. On LinkedIn and Indeed, use the location filter and type “Remote”, or enter your target country and select the “Remote” option. Look for the words “Worldwide Remote” or “Remote — Worldwide” in the posting: these roles accept applicants from many countries, not just one. Company career pages are also worth checking — many remote-first companies post there before anywhere else.
Check the details before you apply. Some “remote” jobs are only remote inside one country, or only for people in certain time zones.
